EU welcomes Israel-Lebanon ceasefire, urges respect for sovereignty

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has welcomed a 10-day ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon announced by US President Donald Trump.

"I welcome the announced 10 day ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon, mediated by President Trump. This is a relief, as this conflict has already claimed far too many lives," von der Leyen wrote on X.

She said Europe would continue to press for full respect for Lebanon’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, adding that the bloc will maintain humanitarian support for the Lebanese people.
