UAE sends Trump's Board of Peace '$100m' for training of new Gaza police force

The United Arab Emirates has disbursed $100m to the US-backed "Board of Peace" to finance the training of a Palestinian police unit destined for the Gaza Strip, The Times of Israel reported, citing diplomatic sources.
The transfer marks the largest donation the Board of Peace has received, after nine members of the board initially pledged a total of $7bn, and the US invested a further $10bn during a donor conference in February.
Recruits are slated to be trained in Egypt and Jordan, with an Emirati security firm tasked with building a force of some 27,000 officers, the US official and Middle Eastern diplomat said.
An earlier report by the publication quoted an Arab diplomat saying that Palestinians who previously served as civil servants in Gaza would be allowed to apply to the new police force, but they will have to undergo vetting by Israel's internal security agency to be approved.
Israel has repeatedly attacked police in Gaza even after a ceasefire was agreed in October.
In the latest violation reported on Wednesday, a senior officer in the Palestinian interior ministry was killed.
Since the ceasefire on 10 October, Israel has killed at least 837 Palestinians, bringing the total death toll during its genocide to at least 72,619.
According to Ali Shaath, the Palestinian technocrat appointed to lead the National Committee for the Administration of Gaza (NCAG), a transitional Palestinian technocratic body, police recruitment in Gaza is already underway.
"Large parts of [the] Gaza Strip are severely damaged. Destroyed, actually. Humanitarian needs are acute. Law and order remain fragile. This is not [a] normal operating environment... which is precisely why discipline and prioritisation matter," he said during a donor meeting in February.
The police force will operate under the umbrella of the NCAG.
Local police force recruited
According to US President Donald Trump's 20-point plan proposed in September to end Israel's war on Gaza, Washington is set to work with Arab and international partners to develop a temporary International Stabilization Force (ISF) to deploy in the Strip.
The ISF is set to work with a newly trained Palestinian police force.

Amid continuing Israeli attacks on Gaza, Nickolay Mladenov, the Board of Peace high representative for Gaza, said in late March that the "truce is holding despite challenges".
He also said the NCAG had been constituted and had "made progress on vetting thousands of civilian police candidates".
“The National Committee exercises authority solely on an interim basis. The end state is a reformed Palestinian Authority capable of governing Gaza and the West Bank, and ultimately a pathway to Palestinian self-determination and statehood,” Mladenov said.
"It is this Palestinian security force, under the authority of the national committee for the transition period, that will allow us to ensure that all factions in Gaza are dismantled and all weapons are put under the control of one civilian authority," Mladenov said.
Board members Indonesia, Morocco, Kazakhstan, Kosovo and Albania had also committed troops to the international security force that will collaborate with local police forces.
The UAE's major donation comes as Abu Dhabi in February drafted plans to build a compound for Palestinians in the part of Gaza militarily occupied by Israel, putting it further at odds with other regional powers, including board members, and Palestinians who oppose what they see as a de facto partition of Gaza.
