Shooter arrested after gunfire at Trump event in Washington

US President Donald Trump said a suspect had been arrested after shots were fired during the White House Correspondents’ Association dinner in Washington.

Trump wrote on Truth Social, "The shooter has been apprehended, and I have recommended that we 'LET THE SHOW GO ON'."

The US Secret Service said the alleged shooter was in custody, according to pool reports cited by AFP.

Witnesses reported hearing multiple shots as guests took cover and security forces evacuated the venue.

Trump praised law enforcement for responding quickly, adding that officials would decide whether the event could continue.
