CNN: Hezbollah fibre-optic drones pose major challenge
Hezbollah is using fibre-optic quadcopter drones that are difficult to detect and stop, according to Israeli experts, CNN reported.
One source said the systems provide “a high-resolution view of the target without transmitting any signal that can be jammed”, making it “impossible to discover the location from which they were launched”.
An Israeli military source told CNN: “Fibre optic drones are highly effective, because instead of a wireless signal controlling the drone remotely, the fibre optic cable connects the drone directly to its operator.”
The report added that cables can extend for up to 15 kilometres, allowing operators to remain at a distance, and cited another source as saying Hezbollah equips the drones with explosives, while officials said efforts are underway to find ways to counter the threat.
