US to play direct role in Lebanon agreement oversight, report says
The United States will play a direct role in monitoring the movements of Lebanese and Israeli forces under the new framework agreement, according to The Washington Post, which cited an unnamed US official.
The official said US personnel already deployed in Lebanon in an observation capacity since the 2024 agreement would now monitor both sides for potential violations.
“This process would enable our political leadership to exert the necessary pressure on either side to fulfil its obligations,” the official said.
According to the report, officials from US Central Command would document and report any violations to the Trump administration, allowing Washington to intervene diplomatically.
The source added that Centcom's commander would not directly oversee either side's activities.
