US and Iran agree to resume Strait of Hormuz talks: Report

Iran and the United States have agreed to pause the latest fighting in the Gulf and return to talks over the Strait of Hormuz, Axios reports.

The move could halt days of attacks and counterattacks that have pushed an interim peace agreement close to collapse.

Axios, citing a senior US official, said the two sides are expected to meet in Qatar on Tuesday. Reuters said it could not immediately verify the report, while the White House did not respond to a request for comment.

A renewed diplomatic track would follow several days of escalating military exchanges after an Iranian projectile struck a cargo vessel in the Strait of Hormuz on Thursday.

Washington and Tehran have each accused the other of violating the interim ceasefire agreed on 17 June.
