Report: Israel to propose long-term troop presence in south Lebanon

Israel is expected to present a plan for a long-term military presence in southern Lebanon during talks with Lebanese officials in Washington, Israeli media reported.

According to the reports, the first zone would extend up to about 8km inside Lebanon, where Israeli forces would maintain a "sustained presence until Hezbollah is dismantled".

A second zone reaching the Litani River would see continued Israeli operations before a "gradual handover to the Lebanese army" while areas north of the river would fall under Lebanese control for disarmament efforts.
