Macron blames Hezbollah for peacekeeper’s klling in Lebanon
The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (Unifil) said it has repatriated the remains of French peacekeeper Florian Montorio to France.
The agency's Head of Mission, Diodato Abagnara, paid tribute, saying Montorio’s service “lives on in what we do next as soldiers, as peacekeepers” and adding, “You gave everything you had for the peace in this land. You have all our respect.”
Unifil said Montorio was killed by small arms fire from a non-state actor.
Emmanuel Macron has blamed Hezbollah for the incident, which the group has denied. Montorio is the fourth peacekeeper killed since fighting between Hezbollah and Israel resumed on 2 March.
Today, UNIFIL paid tribute to Sergeant-Chef Florian Montorio, the peacekeeper who passed away yesterday in a tragic incident while carrying out his duties in Ghanduriyah, south Lebanon.
