Iran urges UN to act over US seizure of Iranian ships
Iran’s ambassador to the United Nations, Amir-Saeid Iravani, has sent a letter to the UN secretary-general and the United Nations Security Council president protesting the United States’ seizure of Iranian vessels, describing the actions as “piracy”.
According to Tasnim News Agency, he said such acts cannot be justified under domestic legal arrangements.
“Such behaviour constitutes illegal coercion, interference in lawful international trade, and the unlawful seizure of property,” Iravani wrote, warning it “sets a dangerous precedent” that undermines international law.
The complaint comes amid escalating tensions over maritime enforcement measures in the region.
