Iran to close Tehran airspace for funeral ceremonies

Iran will fully close Tehran’s airspace on Monday as part of funeral arrangements, the Iranian Students’ News Agency (ISNA) has reported.

Flights continued during Sunday’s ceremony, but Iran’s Civil Aviation Organisation said regular services at Tehran’s Mehrabad International Airport and Imam Khomeini International Airport would be suspended on Monday as public commemorations take place in the capital.

Mehrabad airport is expected to return to normal operations on Tuesday, while Imam Khomeini International Airport will remain closed.

Authorities also said airspace over the northeastern city of Mashhad, along with operations at Shahid Hasheminejad International Airport, would be fully suspended on 9 July during the final burial ceremony.

Flights elsewhere in Iran will continue without restrictions on 7 and 8 July, except for services to Mashhad on the final day of the ceremonies.
