Iran sets timeline, demands guarantees in peace proposal

A 14-point proposal from Iran sets out a framework to end the war, according to Tasnim News Agency. The plan responds to a US proposal and calls for resolving all issues within 30 days, prioritising a permanent end to the conflict rather than extending a temporary ceasefire.

It includes demands for guarantees against future attacks, a withdrawal of United States forces from around Iran, the release of frozen assets, lifting sanctions and war reparations.

The proposal also calls for ending hostilities across the region, including in Lebanon, and creating “a new mechanism” for the Strait of Hormuz.

Axios reported that it sets a one-month deadline to reach a deal on reopening the strait and ending the US naval blockade, followed by another month of negotiations on Iran’s nuclear programme.
