Iran central bank chief heads to Moscow for expanding monetary cooperation
An Iranian delegation led by Central Bank Governor Abdolnaser Hemmati has travelled to Moscow for talks on "monetary and banking relations between Iran and Russia", according to Iran's semiofficial Fars News Agency.
The visit is expected to focus on ways to "facilitate monetary exchanges", strengthen cooperation between the two countries' central banks and develop new mechanisms to expand overall economic ties.
Russia remains one of Iran's closest allies as Tehran continues to face Western sanctions.
According to Fars, the discussions come as Iran and the United States prepare to sign a memorandum of understanding on Friday, with further negotiations on sanctions relief expected in the coming months.
