Hegseth rejects senator’s claims US munitions are depleted

US Secretary of War Pete Hegseth rejected claims by Democratic Senator Mark Kelly that American munitions stockpiles had been significantly depleted by the war involving Iran.

Writing on X, Hegseth criticised Kelly, a retired Navy captain, accusing him of speaking publicly about what he described as a classified Pentagon briefing.

The exchange followed Kelly’s interview with CBS News, in which the senator said the Pentagon had informed lawmakers that the United States had “expended a lot of munitions”.

Kelly warned that the situation left the US “less safe”, adding that replenishing the stockpile could take “years” and could undermine Washington’s readiness for a potential conflict with China.
