Gaza residents return to gym in devastated Khan Younis amid widespread destruction

In Khan Younis, residents have reopened a partially destroyed gym in a basement beneath war-damaged buildings, restoring damaged equipment to create a modest training space. The gym’s owner said the decision to rebuild was driven by necessity rather than choice, citing the lack of functioning recreational spaces nearby.
Regular users say the gym serves a psychological purpose as well as a physical one. Ahmed Al-Majayda, a frequent visitor, said young people in Gaza use training to cope with ongoing stress and hardship. He described the gym as one of the few remaining communal spaces, adding that its continued operation reflects broader efforts by residents to maintain a sense of routine amid prolonged bombardment.
