EU welcomes US-Iran agreement and calls for lasting peace
The European Union welcomed the agreement between the United States and Iran, with European Council President Antonio Costa describing it as an important step towards ending the conflict and restoring stability in the region.
In a statement, Costa said he welcomed the understanding reached between Washington and Tehran and looked forward to “ending this costly war and restoring full freedom of navigation” through the Strait of Hormuz.
Costa praised the diplomatic efforts that helped secure the agreement and called for all remaining disputes to be resolved peacefully.
“The weapons must now be silenced and outstanding disputes resolved peacefully in accordance with international law,” he said.
He added that the European Union stood ready to contribute to the development of a comprehensive strategy aimed at achieving lasting peace across the Middle East.
