Complaint filed in Italy against Israeli soldier for Gaza genocide, HRF says

The Hind Rajab Foundation (HRF) has filed a criminal complaint with prosecutors in Rome against Israeli soldier Arik Ben Asulin, alleging that he had committed war crimes, crimes against humanity and acts of genocide during Israel's war on Gaza.

In a statement issued on Friday, HRF said its complaint was supported by social media posts published by Ben Asulin, including videos of demolitions and photographs showing him handling detonation cables.

The organisation said the material demonstrated both his "direct involvement in the demolition operations" and his "public endorsement of them".

HRF said that Ben Asulin, who served in the Israeli army's 749th Combat Engineering Battalion and is believed to be in Italy currently, took part in the destruction of civilian infrastructure, including Al-Azhar University and residential neighbourhoods in Shujaiya and the Netzarim Corridor.

The complaint cites Italy's universal jurisdiction over international crimes under the Geneva Conventions and the Rome Statute, and urges prosecutors to open a formal investigation into Ben Asulin.
