Celebrities sign petition defending Southbank Centre head over Golders Green comments
More than 250 celebrities have signed a letter in defence of Southbank Centre chair Misan Harriman over comments he made on the Golders Green attacks in London.
The head of the cultural institution faced criticism in the British media after he highlighted the lack of attention paid to a Muslim victim of the 29 April attack in northern London.
He also faced criticism over his comments on the victory of Reform UK in last week's local elections, in which he quoted Susan Sontag referring to the Holocaust.
The letter, published by the Good Law Project included signatures from Gary Lineker, Annie Lennox, Louis Theroux, Greta Thunberg, and Hozier.
“The purpose of the smear campaign, which we repeat is entirely without foundation in fact, is to traduce and marginalise Misan,” reads the letter.
“And it is intended to send a message to others that if they speak out, they will be subject to harassment and threats.
65,000 people have also reported to complained to press regulator IPSO over the coverage.
