AP: Gunman named in Washington hotel security scare
Authorities identified the suspect in the shooting near the White House Correspondents’ Association dinner as Cole Tomas Allen, 31, of Torrance, according to Associated Press.
Muriel Bowser said a lone gunman rushed a US Secret Service checkpoint in the lobby of the Washington Hilton before being stopped.
US President Donald Trump said the suspect never came close to breaching the ballroom and confirmed the event would be rescheduled.
He said the next gathering would be “safer,” after the disruption forced the evacuation of guests.
“I see so many tuxedos and beautiful dresses,” Trump said. “It was a little different evening than we thought. But we’re going to do it again.”
