Video: Fires erupt at Saudi Arabia’s Jubail industrial hub after missile attack
A fire broke out at Jubail Industrial City on Monday after Saudi Arabia’s defence ministry said that air defences intercepted and destroyed seven ballistic missiles launched towards the Eastern region.
According to the ministry, debris from the intercepted missiles fell near energy facilities.
Jubail is home to one of the world’s largest industrial cities, which produces steel, gasoline, petrochemicals and chemical fertilisers. It houses major facilities for global giants such as Saudi Aramco, SABIC, and Sadara Chemical Company.
The industrial hub produces approximately seven percent of the world’s total petrochemical output and contributes over 11 percent of Saudi Arabia’s non-oil GDP. Additionally, it accounts for roughly 85 percent of the Kingdom’s oil exports.
