US lawmaker says strikes on infrastructure would be 'war crime'
Democratic senator Chris Murphy warned that President Donald Trump’s threat to strike civilian infrastructure in Iran was “perhaps the most jarring and diabolical” of his presidency.
Murphy, a member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, said Trump has “doubled down” on a threat “to start committing mass war crimes” tied to his ultimatum over the Strait of Hormuz.
Murphy, said plans to target energy facilities and bridges “will kill tens of thousands of innocent Iranians who work in the plants and travel on the roads.”
“That’s a war crime,” he said, adding that “the people around him… should stop him from committing these war crimes.”
I wrote this essay for substack. Feels like an important moment.
