UN nuclear watchdog: Strikes near Iran’s nuclear power plant ‘must stop’
International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) chief Rafael Grossi has called for attacks on Iran’s Bushehr nuclear power plant to stop, warning they “pose a very real danger to nuclear safety”.
Strikes near the operating plant “could cause a severe radiological accident with harmful consequences for people and the environment in Iran and beyond,” said the International Atomic Energy Agency in a post to X.
However, the statement failed to name the US and Israel as the forces behind these attacks and did not propose that any further action be taken.
The UN watchdog drew criticism earlier on Monday from Iran over its inaction over the attacks on the country’s nuclear facilities, which were hit again for the fourth time today.
In a letter to the IAEA, Iran’s atomic energy chief, Mohammad Eslami, criticised its “lack of decisive action”, saying mere expressions of concern were insufficient and “emboldens aggression”.
