UK convenes 40 countries to discuss reopening Strait of Hormuz

The UK is bringing together foreign ministers from 40 countries to explore options for reopening the Strait of Hormuz, which has effectively been blocked by Iran during the US-Israeli war on Iran.

Prime Minister Keir Starmer said the virtual summit, chaired by Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper, will assess diplomatic and political measures to restore shipping through the waterway.

The US is not among the participants, following remarks by President Donald Trump that securing the route is not Washington’s responsibility.
