Turkish intelligence aided ceasefire efforts between US and Iran, officials say

The Turkish intelligence agency, MIT, has played a role in efforts to secure a ceasefire between the United States and Iran, Turkish security officials said on Wednesday.

The agency, which maintains communication channels with both the United States and the Iranian government, as well as Iran’s Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC), kept lines of contact open between the parties and helped prevent accidents and misunderstandings, the officials added. They said the agency also conveyed messages aimed at preventing further escalation and proposed possible paths towards ending the conflict.

According to the officials, the agency remained in contact with regional countries and European powers, including the United Kingdom, Germany and France, underlining Turkey’s key position in the region’s security architecture.

Throughout the conflict, the agency also assisted with evacuation and humanitarian requests from other countries in affected areas.

It also took strict measures against potential espionage activities carried out in Turkey under the cover of regional instability.
