Trump: US will have Strait of Hormuz ‘open fairly soon’
US President Donald Trump told reporters on Friday that the US will have the Strait of Hormuz “open fairly soon” ahead of ceasefire talks in Islamabad.
He did not elaborate further, but acknowledged “it won’t be easy”.
“Other countries use the Strait. So we do have other countries coming up, and they’ll help out,” Trump added, without identifying any nations in particular.
The channel has been closed by Iran since the US-Israeli attacks on the region began, blocking about 20 percent of the world’s oil and natural gas shipments and causing a surge in global energy prices.
Trump has expressed frustration with allies over a failure to offer sufficient support in reopening the strait, calling Nato “cowards” in a post to Truth Social.
He has also repeatedly claimed victory in the war against Iran despite the strait remaining closed to US shipments.
