Hezbollah calls on Lebanese government to stop offering 'free concessions' to Israel

The secretary-general of Hezbollah, Naim Qassem, has called on the Lebanese government to stop giving "free concessions" to Israel ahead of planned talks between the two governments in Washington next week.

"We will not accept a return to the previous situation, and we call on officials to stop offering free concessions," Qassem said in a written message broadcast on the Hezbollah-affiliated Al-Manar TV on Friday.

Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam instructed security forces on Thursday to ban the use of weapons in Beirut by non-state groups amid ongoing efforts by his government and the US to disarm Hezbollah.

Qassem also denounced the "bloody criminality on Wednesday", referring to the wave of Israeli strikes that killed more than 300 people and injured over 1,100 nationwide.

The attacks were met with widespread condemnation by rights watchdogs and European leaders, among others.
