Germany urges China to help push Iran to reopen Hormuz




The German minister for foreign affairs, Johann Wadephul, held a call with Chinese foreign minister Wang Yi to discuss how to resolve the conflict in the Middle East, according to a post on X from the German foreign ministry.

Both countries said they wanted to see free navigation through the Strait of Hormuz and agreed that individual states should not control sea lanes or levy tolls for passage.

China can use its influence with Iran to push for a negotiated solution to end hostilities in the region, the post stated.
