France warns US strikes on Iran infrastructure would break international law

France’s foreign minister has warned that any US attack on Iran’s civilian infrastructure would violate international law and trigger dangerous escalation.

Speaking to France Info on Tuesday, hours before a deadline set by US President Donald Trump for Iran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, Jean-Nool Barrot said such strikes would carry serious consequences.

“If we all speak out against attacks on civil and energy infrastructure, then we do so primarily because they are ruled out according to the rules of war and international law, and secondly because in the case of the war in Iran, they will undoubtedly lead to a new phase of escalation and retaliatory measures,” Barrot said.

He warned the fallout could spiral, driving further retaliation and worsening already high fuel prices.
