Beijing, Moscow push for ceasefire, Hormuz stability

China’s foreign minister, Wang Yi, and Russia’s foreign minister, Sergey Lavrov, discussed the escalating war in Iran and the broader Middle East situation in a phone call, according to China’s ambassador to the United Nations.

Beijing said both countries, as permanent members of the Security Council, should take an “objective and balanced approach".

“The fundamental way to address navigation in the Strait of Hormuz is to achieve a ceasefire and end the fighting as soon as possible,” China’s UN envoy Fu Cong said, relaying Wang’s position.

Fu added that Lavrov expressed concern over the escalation and said, “military operations must cease immediately.”
